Jack Sparrow Doll

I'm leaving for a weekend camping trip today but I wanted to post up something before I left. So, even though it's not quite finished, I thought I'd show you my Captain Jack Sparrow doll. My first cousin once removed (if I have Googled this relationship correctly!) really loves Jack Sparrow so I made him a Jack doll for his birthday, which is next week. Still to be done on this doll: sew on a mouth and mustache, add a little necklace, and trim the hair.

I used the Punk Bunny pattern by Elisabeth Doherty from the book Amigurumi! Super Happy Crochet Cute. I just left off the ears and tail. I had a skull bead from last Halloween that I thought made a perfect belt buckle and a little compass pendant that I will use for his necklace. I think he turned out great! Pics are clickable.

This week my personal website has expired and, as I haven't really the need for it at the moment, I've decided to just let it go. So I'll post here my pattern for the Amigurumi Dildo so Ravelry users (and anyone else) can still use it.

If you would prefer to have this pattern in PDF format please comment here or message me at amigurumijain (at) aim.com and I will gladly send it to you. Also, if you have made a dildo please send me a picture of it for my growing collection! I love to see the many variations you make!

Star Wars Pillow

Time to crochet has been cut drastically the last few days by a temporary job I got yesterday. It will take up most of my time until Thursday, but I do have some news to report. First, I got to the craft store and picked up the remaining skeins of yarn I needed to finish my two jackets as well as an afghan I'm making for my grandmother for Christmas. Also, about a week ago I picked up a Star Wars pillow kit on clearance for three dollars (!) and I finally got to pick up a pillow form to stuff it with (also on sale!) so here is a picture of the finished product. I love Star Wars and I am really happy with this soft fuzzy pillow. It will be perfect to snuggle with on this dark stormy night.

Yay for Stash Busting!

There's nothing quite like the feeling you get when you have estimated your yarn perfectly. I started a project today, a Captain Jack Sparrow doll for my nephew Preston who loves Pirates of the Carribean, and I had two skeins of white yarn. One was about a half skein and the other was a huge Red Heart Super Saver that has barely been used. Instead of using the Super Saver and being absolutely sure I had enough, I decided to be a good girl and use up the last of the half skein to get it out of my inventory. I had an idea that I had just enough and, as you can see in the picture below, I had exactly the right amount. And the yarn angels sing.

Lace Pattern Complete!

At last, the 71 row lace pattern of my Barcello Jacket is complete! I've got just a tiny ball of yarn left so if anyone is wondering, this is how much you can do with a skein of Caron One Pound. Not too shabby! I'm going to try it on today and see how I like the length and I may possibly make it long sleeved. I haven't decided yet. But I should be getting to the store soon to get another skein of yarn and get this finished up. And since I will be getting another pound, I'll have plenty of yarn leftover to make something else. Maybe a matching purse! As always, images are clickable.

Yay for Free Yarn!

So far I have been able to meet my goal of crocheting at least one row a day on my Barcello Jacket. I have about 45 rows of the lace pattern left. The lighting in my room is horrible but here is a picture anyway. I've really got to get a lamp!

My friend JoAnn came over for a visit today and took me out to lunch and she brought me a big bag of yarn that she didn't want anymore. I was expecting it to be a ton of different colors - perfect for my YoYo Tote project. To my surprise, it wasn't that at all! It was even better, 14 skeins of Jiffy Baby yarn in a nice blue heather color, about five in pink, and two in white with colored sprinkles. The blue will be perfect for another clothing piece. Something tells me I'm going to have a lot of jackets to wear this year!

Barcello Progress

My Barcello Jacket is coming along nicely. I took this picture of it this morning.

Since taking the picture I have added a few more rows to it. I have joined the body under the arms and now I am working on the long, long stretch of the lace pattern. 71 rows long to be exact. I have done... 6. But it's the same thing over and over so I just have to do a little every day.

The yarn I am using felt a lot softer before I started working with it. I'm hoping it will soften up a bit after I wash it and wear it a few times. I have high hopes of this being a great jacket to wear around the house this winter. I may even lengthen the sleeves a bit.

Edit: Here's a picture of what it looks like now. I've got 59 rows of the lace pattern left.

Ok, so I lied.

I know I said I wouldn't start the Barcello Jacket until I finished the Circle Jacket. But I lied. I ran out of yarn on my Circle Jacket and I'm not getting to the store any time soon. So I decided to go ahead and start my Barcello.

First, some pictures of the Circle Jacket. All I need to do is finish the collar and it's ready to wear! I will have someone else take some pics for me once it's finished.

I did a few more pattern repeats on the Arch Scarf yesterday. I have to admit I'm getting a little bored with this stitch. But it looks really nice. I'm almost done with it but I'm almost out of yarn, too, and it looks like it may need a round of single crochet all the way around. The edges are a bit rough. So my dilema is: do I buy another skein of that yarn or do I go around it with another color? I'll have to go through the stash and see what I've got.

And here is a shot of the Barcello Jacket in its infancy. Sorry it's a bit blurry but my camera was mad at me today. This will be the neckline.
